Neuropathy, also known as peripheral neuropathy, is a medical condition that affects the nerves outside of the brain and spinal cord, known as the peripheral nervous system. The peripheral nervous system is responsible for transmitting information between the central nervous system and the rest of the body, including the limbs, organs, and tissues.

Neuropathy can be caused by a variety of factors, including diabetes, chemotherapy, alcohol abuse, infections, autoimmune diseases, and hereditary conditions. It can also be caused by physical injury or trauma, such as a herniated disc or carpal tunnel syndrome.

Symptoms of neuropathy may include numbness, tingling, burning or stabbing sensations, weakness, and difficulty with coordination and balance. These symptoms may be localized to a specific area of the body, or they may affect multiple regions. In some cases, neuropathy can also cause muscle wasting and paralysis.
